Arabic alumni have gone on to pursue careers in law, government service, academic research. Studying Arabic is an enriching addition to any field of study, however, an exciting pathway to a variety of global careers.

The Arabic program encourages students to participate in many extracurricular activities. These activities include exciting events, culturally based celebrations, field trips, movie nights, and language tables! One of the most popular activities, organized and facilitated by Professor Younasse Tarbouni, is the Arabic Calligraphy Workshop. Students from many disciplines throughout the university participate in this 2-day workshop each year to not only learn more about Arabic and calligraphy, but also to create beautiful works of art!

Study Abroad

As an Arabic major at Washington University in St. Louis, you have several excellent study abroad opportunities from which to choose in Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Yemen, etc. In these and other Arab countries, there are year-long or semester-long programs that focus on intensive language instruction combined with a selection of Arabic-related course work. Some of the programs feature home-stay with Arab families. You may also apply for summer language study in several Arab countries.
