The Social Work degree at the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work has been continuously accredited by the Council on Social Work Education since 1974. The School of Social Work has a threefold mission of education, research, and service that complements the tradition of excellence upheld by the University.

The goals of the BASW Program are to prepare students to:

Practice with cultural humility in accordance with the principles, values, and ethics that guide the social work profession.

Use their liberal arts foundation and their understanding of bio-psycho-social-spiritual-cultural development to engage in evidence-informed generalist social work practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities within a multicultural society.

Advocate for human rights and social, economic, and environmental justice.

Continue formal education either in graduate social work education or in some other graduate discipline.

Earning the BASW degree also prepares our graduates for the MSW graduate school program, earning a MSW degree in just 12-months.

Pay your $55 application fee.

Submit your Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR). Completing the SRAR is easy–just fill it out to match your transcript exactly. The SRAR is required of all first-year applicants, with the exception of international students.

Personal Statement. A personal statement is your opportunity to communicate directly with the Admissions Committee and is required to be considered for scholarships.
