The Department of English offers a minor and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in English. At the graduate level, the department offers a Master of Arts (M.A.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in English and a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) in creative writing.

Scope of the Program - The College of Liberal Arts offers a broad and comprehensive course of study including most areas of knowledge in the humanities, the fine and performing arts, mathematics, and the biological, physical, and social sciences.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 2.75

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.75 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

General Requirements

  • The University of Mississippi is proud that our student body is enriched by a diverse pool of students from around the nation and the world. 
  • Nonresident applicants with a 2.75 GPA or higher on the College Preparatory Curriculum (CPC) or equivalent CPC of the applicant’s state of residence and a composite ACT score of 22 or higher (or 1020 or higher on the SAT Critical Reading/Mathematics only) will be granted regular admission to the university.
