About

The Department of Mathematics offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. The degree is offered in two concentrations: Mathematics and General Mathematical Studies. The Mathematics Concentration offers students the opportunity to prepare to provide technical support and conduct research for high-technology industries, government, and private companies. Both concentrations prepare students to pursue advanced graduate study. 

The General Mathematical Studies Concentration includes a component for those students wishing to obtain state certification to teach mathematics at the secondary level. The department also offers a Minor in Mathematics. Students interested in electives in Statistics, a Minor in Applied Statistics, or a Bachelor of Science degree in Statistics, should refer to the Department of Management Science and Statistics in the College of Business section of this catalog.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 2.5

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.5 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

General Requirements

To apply as an international freshman (first-time university student)

  • Pay the $70 application processing fee
  • Submit your official secondary school transcript with subjects and grades
  • Send your TOEFL or IELTS scores.  TOEFL (www.toefl.org) scores must be sent directly from the testing agency.
  • If you have taken the SAT or ACT, please send your scores to us directly from the testing agency
  • Students who have studied at an American-accredited high school in another country must submit SAT or ACT scores
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA (4.0 scale)
