About

History

 In 1841, University of Huddersfield was known as a Young Men’s Mental Improvement Society and had about 400 students. Since then we’ve grown into a university with over 23,000 students.  

In 2016 our institution celebrated a very special anniversary. We marked 175 years since an educational institute was set up in Huddersfield to educate local working people.

Research

The University of Huddersfield has a long standing reputation of producing high quality, international research output with excellent impact. As an institution, we recognise the importance of looking beyond academia to address global challenges and make a real difference.

We've world-leading applied research groups in biomedical sciences, engineering and physical sciences, social sciences and arts and humanities.

We're a dynamic institution that has quadrupled our research income and its postgraduate research in seven years

Career

We have an impressive record for graduate employment, with 97.3% of our undergraduate and 93.8% of postgraduate students in work or further study six months after graduating (DLHE 2016/17). The University places a great deal of importance on industry experience and therefore 100% of our undergraduate students have the opportunity to undertake professional work experience during their studies.

Student services

We offer a friendly and supportive environment for all. Our Student Support services will be there for you when you need them – from practical advice to more intensive support – to help make your time here at Huddersfield run as smoothly as possible.

Housing services

Our student accommodation in Huddersfield is a unique place to live. It’s a buzzing student hub, with plenty going on, but it’s set in an idyllic countryside setting. Storthes Hall Park has a range of modern facilities on-site. Head to the free gym, relax with your friends in the bar, stock up on essentials from the shop or do a quick load in the launderette.  In terms of the rooms available, we have single or double occupancy. We have ‘sociable style’ kitchens or modern ‘dining style’ kitchens for you to enjoy, and all of our rooms feature an en-suite bathroom.  

In addition to our preferred, recommended and approved supplier of student accommodation there are a number of options for students in Huddersfield. These include halls operated by iQ Student Accommodation (Aspley House, Little Aspley House and Castings House) and Unite Students (Saw Mill, Snow Island and Firth Point).

Library services

The University of Huddersfield Library provides a wide variety of resources and services including:

  • Printers, photocopiers and scanners including a mobile print service

Medical services

The University Health Centre is an NHS General Practice, providing Personal Medical Services to our registered patients. This practice is not a limited partnership.

You'll find doctors, nurses and physios on hand to help. They can give you advice on everything including sexual health, contraception, sports injuries, rehabilitation, travel vaccines, relaxation and stress.

Student Life

Campus life

The University of Huddersfield has its campus just across the road from the town centre, making everything you need just minutes away!

On campus you’ll find all academic schools, the library, quiet study spaces and research facilities alongside green spaces, places to eat and a gym. We’ve invested nearly £156 million in campus development, and have fantastic facilities including specialist laboratories, studios and performance spaces. There's also a working canal that runs through the heart of our campus with a tree-lined towpath, perfect for those downtime moments.

Here at Huddersfield everything is accessible in one location so you’re only a short walk away from everything you need.

Sports facilities

Team Hud is the University of Huddersfield's fitness center.

Opened on weekdays from 7 am to 10 pm and in weekends from 9 am to 6 pm, our fitness center has:

some of the classes and module were very useful while others were not. in biological science 'team' you have to choose modules from the very first year also we do not have a reading week. on the other side, the University of Huddersfield is a high tech school all the labs for pharmacy biology and chemistry are brand new.
