Although the youngest state university in New Mexico, we look with pride upon our accomplishments since the dream of having a university in eastern New Mexico first arose many decades ago. The Legislature of 1927 located the University in Portales, and the Legislature of 1929 approved the first appropriation for buildings.
Whether online or on-campus, our programs help students explore current research techniques, and develop knowledge and competency in their field of study while fostering a spirit of inquiry by encouraging independent, original thought. We believe education is a lifelong process that demonstrates the importance of independent inquiry, objectivity and judgment. As an ENMU student, you will be provided with experiences to help you find success in a changing world.

As a student, you need a safe environment that gives you privacy, quiet time and a place to keep your stuff. You also need a place where you can feel comfortable hanging out with your friends, listening to music or doing whatever it is you do to relax. You will find just the environment you need in our three dormitories and 300 apartments.
ENMU offers preventive and acute health services similar to your family health care clinic, at little or no cost to students through La Casa ENMU Student Health Services. Wellness exams, screening, lab testing, family planning and and treatment for infections are also provided at La Casa ENMU Student Health Services.
The campus consists of 344 acres with many different types of facilities from classrooms and dorms to athletic areas and performance venues. You can see the locations of all the buildings on campus by viewing our campus map.
At ENMU we know that having opportunities to be active is essential to your health and success as a student, staff or faculty. To cater to your diverse interests we provide a fitness facility, swimming facility, climbing wall and boxing area. For those looking for competitive opportunities we facilitate intramurals.
The Office of Campus Life serves as the focal point for more than 50 registered student organizations on campus. This office gives you the opportunity to create clubs and organizations if your interest does not already exist. Student organizations build leadership within the groups and take part in various events throughout the year.
