About

History

In 1826, Fredonia residents established a form of higher education beyond the "common school" when they created the Fredonia Academy. In 1948, Fredonia became one of the four-year colleges in the newly-established State University of New York (SUNY) system.

Housing services

The Office of Residence Life strives to provide a comprehensive residence life program as an integral part of the educational program and academic support services of the institution. The residence life program is committed to providing opportunities for personal growth and development and supports the educational mission of the college by providing facilities and programs to assist students in developing mutually supportive relationships in order to live, work and learn with people of diverse backgrounds and individual differences.

Library services

  • Over 1,000,000 pages printed in the library yearly
  • Library Instruction program reaches 4,000 students per year
  • Over 10,000 student work hours per year
  • Staff 7 librarians and 5 clerical
  • Reed Library first floor is larger than a football field

Medical services

The UnitedHealthcare health insurance policy offered through SUNY is mandatory for all international students and scholars enrolled within the state system.  International scholars with J-1 exchange/visitor, researcher, and professor visa status are also required to enroll in the policy, but are exempt if enrolled in the SUNY Graduate Assistant policy.
