The University of the Philippines (UP) was established in 1908 by Act No. 1870 of the Philippine Legislature to “give advanced instruction in literature, philosophy, the sciences and the arts, and professional and technical training to every qualified student, irrespective of age, sex, nationality, religious belief, or political affiliation.”
Research has always been embedded in the culture of the University of the Philippines. As mandated by RA 9500, or the UP Charter of 2008, the University shall lead in initiating innovations in research, and serve as a research university by promoting and implementing research and development in various fields of expertise.

UPD instills good values to make students proactive in career. Interior Design has always been viewed as an elite course but in UP, they teach you to believe that you learn in order to serve the masses, in order to make good design accessible to all.
