Overview
Key facts
- Graduates of the History program at University of the Philippines Diliman are expected to be equipped with the adequate and necessary training in historical methodology and to prepare them for teaching, research, or employment in institutions and agencies devoted to the advancement of scholarship in the fields of history and cultural studies. Eventually, they enter the fields of education, law, foreign service, research, journalism, tourism, and heritage conservation.
- The Department adopts a progressive approach by requiring students to pass first the foundational courses) before being given the opportunity to enroll in the specialized higher-level History courses.
- Therefore, the courses in the curriculum are designed in a structured and logical way, and therefore enable learners to make connections between the new knowledge presented and their prior knowledge and experiences. Furthermore, students can choose their desired cognate or elective courses (can be taken from any discipline), which prepares them for their thesis work by providing them with experience within that field of study. In addition, a student also has the option to choose which History courses to take per semester, provided they had passed the pre-requisite courses and they abide with prescribed curricular rules.
