About

History

  • 1895 - Auckland Technical School opens in a former cabinet making factory in Rutland Street with 137 students enrolled for night classes in vocational education and the trades.
  • 1902 - George George is appointed the school’s first Director.

International students at AUT can see our friendly team at the AUT Student Hub for information on immigration matters, visas, insurance, accommodation and life in New Zealand. We can talk to faculties for you if you need assistance. We can also help you with setting up a bank account.

Housing services

Living on campus is a great option, particularly if you are new to AUT or from out of town. AUT student accommodation is convenient, modern and supportive - just minutes from the AUT City or North Campus.

  • AUT accommodation: Wellesley Student Apartments and Akoranga Student Village (Available at the AUT City Campus or North Campus)
  • Summer accommodation at AUT University (Available at Wellesley Student Apartments)

Library services

Borrowing basics:

  • You must have you current AUT ID card with you
  • Borrow items at the self-issue machines, or the Lending Desks
  • Return items to a returns slot at any of the campus Lending Desks
  • Return Short Loan items to the Short Loan returns area
  • Login to My Account check your borrowed items
  • Items can be recalled by others. You will be sent an email to your AUT email address with the new due date.

ICT services

AUT provides free WiFi to students across all its campuses. All students get 20GB of Internet data per month, after they have completed the IT Account Registration process.

Student Life

Campus life

AUT has three campuses with a range of study options:

  • AUT City Campus
  • AUT South Campus
  • AUT North Campus

If you are after something to eat or drink, or need to buy stationery, textbooks or AUT merchandise, there are food outlets and stores on campus for your convenience.

There are multiple student lounges and areas on AUT campuses where you can study, relax or work on group assignments. There are also areas for quieter activities like reflection, meditation or praying, as well as the AUT Nga Wai o Horotiu Marae, whanau spaces, fono rooms and rooms for breastfeeding.

Sports facilities

AUT is New Zealand’s leading sports university. The university has state of the art sports facilities, on-campus gyms, and a huge number of sports teams and events which all students can join.

The AUT Sport Development Team provides a comprehensive sports programme and discounted season fees for all sports.

You can get involved in free recreational sport, the inter-faculty sports series, sports teams and clubs, competitive inter-university tournaments, and international sports opportunities.
