About

History

The institution traces its origin to a farsighted group of concerned parents and business leaders in the community.
Convinced that public higher education opportunities were needed in the Metro-East portion of the greater St. Louis area, the Council aggressively lobbied state officials and commissioned a consultant study to document that need.

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville will achieve greater national and global recognition and academic prominence through innovative and interdisciplinary programs that empower individuals to achieve their full potential.

Research

The National Science Foundation ranks SIUE second for federal research and development expenditures among all Carnegie master’s large, primarily residential universities.
Each year, faculty and staff receive grants and contracts for research, teaching and service initiatives from funding organizations such as National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Department of Health and Human Services and United States Environmental Protection Agency.

Career

The close proximity to St. Louis gives students the benefit of internships, cooperative education opportunities and full-time employment with major corporations like The Boeing Company, Anheuser-Busch, Edward Jones, Express Scripts and BJC Healthcare.
Ninety percent of SIUE students secure a job within six months of graduation.

Housing services

On-campus residents experience the benefits of housing staff, community, and amenities for a great value. Housing residents foster friendships within their communities, connect with faculty and staff and take advantage of numerous opportunities for personal and academic growth.
Each resident has the opportunity to create a unique experience through a number of different ways - active involvement in housing student leadership, participation in a Focused Interest Community (FIC), staff interactions, wing community participation and much more!

Library services

Faculty can place materials on reserve for various courses and even schedule a session for their classes. The library also offers library proxy forms that can be requested if a graduate assistant needs to check out things on behalf of a faculty member. Additionally, you can find information about our institutional repository, SPARK, where you can upload and store your published research.

SIUE has completed a $300-million construction and infrastructure improvement plan that already has resulted in thousands of students, faculty, staff and campus visitors enjoying numerous finished additions to campus life.

All new campus construction is Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) certifiable by the U.S. Green Building Council. SIUE is second in the region for the number of LEED certified buildings on university campuses:

School of Dental Medicine's Multidisciplinary Laboratory - LEED Silver
Lukas Athletics Annex - LEED Silver

Sports facilities

Student Fitness Center Weight Room Expansion — Campus Recreation recently expanded the weight room at the Student Fitness Center. Supported by SIUE Student Government and 100 percent funded by student fees, this expansion added more than double the space to the existing weight room.
The weight room added an array of new equipment including racks, Olympic plates, bumper plates, more rack stations, women’s weighted bar(s), multiuse benches, platforms, dumbbells, medicine balls, training rope(s) and more.
