The start of the present-day Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) is deemed to be September 1, 1956, when Vilnius Evening Division of the Evening Faculty of Kaunas Polytechnic Institute (KPI) was established. A specialist in chemistry Assoc. Prof. Jeronimas Kudaba (1909-1992) was appointed the Dean of this division.
The university's mission is to develop a publicly responsible, creative, competitive individual who is receptive to science, the latest technologies and cultural values; to promote scientific progress, social and economic well-being; to create value that ensures the development of both Lithuania and the region in the global context.
Focus area of research:
During the consultations with career specialist students will be able to analyze career issues, to create individual career plan, to prospect vision and develop strategy that would lead to successful career.
There is a variety of private hostels that students can choose according to their preferences and needs.
Some pivate hostels, like "Corner Hotel” and "Green Hotel" are long-term accommodation oriented. Corner Hotel is situated close to city center, close to faculties of Electronics, Mechanics and not so far away from Architecture faculty, which are not at the main university campus. Green Hotel is a bit farther from the old town yet a convenient hotel‘s location provides easy access to city center.
All international students are supposed to have medical insurance valid in Lithuania during the study period.

VGTU international students dormitory is situated in the university campus, it takes about 7-10 min walk to the building of administration of the university and faculties of Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Business Management and Fundamental Sciences. Faculties of Architecture, Electronics, Mechanics and Transport Engineering are located in the city; A.Gustaitis Aviation Institute is located near the International Airport.
We are proud of our energetic, enthusiastic, talented students and encourage them to further develop their skills at the university. There are several art clubs at the university, the most significant and oldest being theatre, orchestra, choir and dance clubs.
On May 2015 VGTU accomplished implementation of Quality Management System and has been evaluated by external auditors of certification body. Issued certificate states that Quality Management System of VGTU fulfils the requirements of international quality standard ISO 9001:2008 in Studies, Life Long Learning organization and implementation Research (Art) and Innovation Activities.
