Overview
Students who select the Geosciences - Geology Emphasis offered at The University of Arizona take an interdisciplinary approach to the study of the planet. In this top-ranked program, students learn scientific research skills; gain experience working with data and technology in the field and in the laboratory; and study the Earth's origin and history, as well as the planet's components and how they interact with one another.
Geology students participate in a Capstone Summer Field Camp in the later part of their program that provides hands-on experience applying their content knowledge in the field. Graduates pursue careers in research, energy, mineral resources, academia and more.

- The nature and significance of structures, such as folds, faults, and joints
- The first-order processes that shape the surface of the Earth (e.g., rivers, glaciers, mass wasting, wind, weathering, erosion)
- The nature and origin of mineral and hydrocarbon resources on Earth
- The possible linkages between human activities and our physical environment (e.g., global climate change).
