Overview
Our French program at Rutgers University offers courses designed for students with three complimentary goals:
- To learn the French language from beginning to advanced levels. Language courses are designed for students interested in using French for business, travel, cultural knowledge, enjoyment or further study.
- To discover French literatures and civilization in English.Culture courses taught in English are open to students with no prior knowledge of the language seeking a broad liberal arts background. Many of these courses are cross-listed in other programs, such as Africana Studies, Media Studies, Film Studies, criminal justice, and Women’s and Gender Studies.
- To understand French literatures and civilization in French.Upper-level electives taught in French are accessible to advanced students, especially those with a French major or minor and those who plan for a career in education. Such courses may also interest those majoring in English, in other languages, or in related fields like art, music, history, International Studies and Global Studies.
