This new Game Design degree from Samford University provides students with the background and skills to work in the video and gaming industry. Are you interested in coding and creating video games, 3D animation and storytelling? Students will gain a strong foundation in art and technology.

- Principles of 3D Animation — Students develop a sense of timing, staging, fluid movement, blocking, and expressive performance in character animation. Technical software understanding is built with a focus on animation principles to create effective acting, facial expressions, and lip-sync.
- Principles of 3D Game Art — Students develop core 3D production skills, including modeling and texturing assets. The course focuses on creating 3D assets specifically designed for integration into a game engine.
- Intermediate 3D Production Art — Students refine their 3D art skills by creating complex organic and hard-surface models for video games, animation, and visual effects. Emphasis is placed on digital sculpting and producing high-resolution characters and environments.
- Advanced 3D Production Art — Students explore advanced methods for creating assets for short animated films or video games. The course prepares them for professional work by aligning projects with their industry goals.
- Game and Animation Development Studio — Students apply their skills in a hands-on environment to create an animated short or video game. The course simulates a professional production setting, emphasizing teamwork, limited resources, and production-focused workflows.
- Game Design and Programming — Students learn core game design principles and mechanics. Using real-time rendering software, they design and program immersive environments while developing systems and documenting their designs using industry methods.
- Game Tech and Programming — Students use professional techniques to design and program a conceptual game with complex materials, particles, and environmental effects. The course emphasizes both practical and theoretical aspects, preparing students for careers as programmers, designers, and game tech specialists.
