The programme

After completing the requirements of this Social Studies 6-12 Teaching Field Endorsement offered by the University of Nebraska Kearney, you will be fully qualified to teach social studies courses at the 7-12 grade level in public and private school settings.

The Department of History at the University of Nebraska at Kearney gives students a working knowledge of past events, people, ideas and values in the United States and in other parts of the world. Students will gain an understanding of contemporary society from a social science perspective that includes multi-cultural and global contexts.

Our faculty believe in the importance of getting future educators into the classroom early and often, and help to guide students through early field experiences and student teaching.

Those interested in becoming teachers must first be admitted to the Teacher Education program. The Praxis® Core Academic Skills for Educators tests are the approved Basic Skills test for program admission. Passing scores must be achieved in Reading, Writing and Mathematics.

A freshman student must complete the following requirements:

Application Form - complete an online application and submit the $45.00 non-refundable admissions application
Transcripts - A final transcript reflecting high school graduation date and a cumulative GPA is required after you have graduated. At the time of application, you will be allowed to self-report high school coursework and GPA, and encouraged to upload a sixth semester (end of junior year) transcript.
