Overview

The Dance - Teacher Certification program offered by The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley provides students with the opportunity to prepare for a variety of dance careers, offering both a broad base of study and an opportunity for more intensive work in areas of specific interest.

This program prepares students for teacher certification in Secondary Dance. Students receive preparation in multiple areas of dance as well as 24 hours of education courses. The required courses are aligned with the state of Texas requirements for teacher certification (TExES). This program is also recommended for students who are interested in teaching in the private studio setting.

A BA in Dance opens the door to a career in teaching dance at the secondary school level or in a private studio setting.

General requirements

Submit an Undergraduate (four-year) application through ApplyTexas.org.
Applicants from a U.S. High School or Homeschool: Submit high school transcript indicating graduation plan, GPA, and class rank (if applicable).
Applicants from a Foreign High School: Send your transcript to one of the approved evaluation companies and have them send the evaluation report directly to UTRGV.
Test Scores: UTRGV remains test-optional for admissions. Students interested in Tuition Advantage and Scholarships must submit ACT or SAT scores (science required for ACT takers).
Admissions Essay: Submit Essay A or B via Document Central. Minimum recommended length: 500 words.
Additional items for international applicants:
Submit $50 application fee through the UTRGV Marketplace.
Submit proof of English language proficiency by one of the following companies: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), DUOLINGO English Test, IELTS, or Pearson’s PTE Academic
