Overview

At the Medical Sciences (with Foundation Year) programme from The University of Lancashire you’ll be based at our fantastic Burnley Campus. You will learn how the systems of the body, from the cellular level upwards, work together to maintain normal function and health, while also developing language and communication skills specific to the medical field.

You will study the mechanisms of clinical and pathological conditions at both clinical and molecular levels. You will also learn how the evidence base for science and medicine is developed and begin to explore research methods and how to conduct a research project successfully.

This unique course focuses on both academic achievement and training in clinical and communication skills.

If you successfully complete the foundation year, you could apply for progression to more than 10 different professional health degrees.

What you'll do

You’ll be taught at our fantastic Burnley Campus in an innovative environment, with state-of-the-art models, imaging and a 3D virtual dissection table

You’ll be taught in classes with high staff to student ratio, allowing for individualised learning and support.

During the foundation year, you’ll be supported with finding voluntary work or work shadowing opportunities in related settings to assist you with your future study choices.

Future careers

This foundation year programme will prepare you to progress onto full honours degrees. Following this, the clinically-relevant scientific knowledge acquired on our BSc (Hons) Medical Sciences degree will prepare you as a highly competitive candidate for entry onto graduate entry medicine, dentistry, physician associate and other professional study programmes.
