Overview
The Studio Art - Sculpture programme from University of North Texas supports traditional, experimental and transdisciplinary approaches to studio art practice through broadening students' framework of understanding while increasing their capacity to think beyond convention.
From found objects to large-scale public monuments, ancient ceremonial relics to immersive new media installations, the possibilities made available by such an expansive field are limitless.
Key facts
- Students pursuing the B.F.A. in Studio Art with a concentration in Sculpture complete a final portfolio of original, cohesive work. As you graduate, you will have been empowered to develop a personal voice, a professional and creative practice, self-discipline, and cultural awareness.
- As a Sculpture major, you'll be challenged conceptually and technically, and much of your time will be spent creating original works. However, the curriculum also exposes you to all aspects of 3-D art and the different media in which to work, including computer-based design for digital fabrication.
- In the studio, students gain technical skills including woodworking, welding, metal fabrication, mold-making, casting, digital fabrication, public art proposals and installation practice.

- Education – students are prepared to enter higher education programmes such as a graduate sculpture or studio art. Graduates may instruct private lessons or public workshops and classes at local arts organizations, community centers, galleries or studios.
- Fine Artist and Freelance – create public art installations and commissioned work for various businesses and corporations, craft markets, arts organizations, or private collectors. Sculpture artists typically are freelance, working in their studios and selling their art to collectors and galleries.
- Commercial Work – digital sculptor/prop maker, designer/fabricator, exhibition designer, art handler/installer.
- Other Areas –sculpture or woodshop studio technician.

General requirements
- Students with a cumulative unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 or higher are guaranteed admission to UNT. Students' GPAs will be standardized on a 4.0 GPA scale once transcripts are submitted.
- UNT is test-score-optional, however, submitting test scores can help determine admission decisions, testing exemptions and scholarship opportunities.
- An applicant's GED certificate of completion must reflect a minimum score of 165 on each of the four exams. Applicants with scores from 145-164 will be individually reviewed and required to submit additional documents, such as an essay and letters of recommendation.
