Overview

During the Bachelor of Arts in Classical Civilization and Hellenic Studies programme from New York University they actively cultivate a friendly and collegial atmosphere, in which undergraduate students, professors, and graduate students interact on a daily basis.

The department, with its seminar room, lounge, and library is often a home-away-from-home for our students. Please note also that undergraduates are always encouraged to attend lectures by visiting scholars and in-house presentations of current research by faculty and graduate students.

In short, we always hope that our students appear not merely in the classes they take with our teachers, but that they become thoroughly engaged members of our community on the fifth floor of the Silver Center.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of programme requirements, students are expected to have acquired:

A level of proficiency in either Ancient or Modern Greek sufficient to commence reading advanced texts under guidance.

Knowledge of different genres of Greek literature.

Knowledge of different aspects of Greek antiquity, such as its literature, history, archaeology, and philosophy.

Standardized test scores (see NYU’s standardized testing requirements). Standardized testing is optional for the upcoming application term.

A Self Reported Academic Record (SRAR). All applicants will be invited to complete this after submitting their application.

English language testing if you have not completed at least 3 years of study where English is the sole language of instruction at the time of application submission and English is not your first language.

Records of all college work that you have received academic credit for and does not appear on your high school transcript.

The Common Application Mid Year Report with updated academic record if mid-year grades are available. This should show your first semester senior year grades.
