Overview

The BS program in biology with a concentration in environmental justice examines living systems through experiential learning and scientific inquiry. By learning in an integrative environment that emphasizes the connectedness of the life sciences and social sciences through the lens of justice and equity, students gain a better understanding of larger scientific concepts and how science can be applied to social policies to effect positive outcomes for communities and ecosystems.All the program's core courses include laboratories to provide students with ample practice in science inquiry, including the development of scientific questions, designing experiments and collecting data, and data analysis. The Biology (Environmental Justice) program is offered by the Arizona State University.

Students are encouraged to conduct independent research under the mentorship of faculty members or during internships. Some even publish in top journals and present their results at scientific meetings. Students in this concentration will apply their research to social policies to improve outcomes for marginalized communities and natural ecosystems.

Career opportunities

Graduates of this degree program will be able to apply their science research skills and knowledge to a variety of careers in the life sciences, such as careers in wildlife or animal conservation, formal or informal science education environments, environmental consulting services, or in a science or policy graduate program of study.
