Overview

The Astrophysics programme from Lycoming College will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in astrophysics in just four years, prepared for graduate-level studies or a career that uses their research, data analysis and problem-solving skills.

Students majoring in astrophysics often pursue work with high-tech corporations such as NASA, Boeing, and Lockheed Martin; educational programming work for planetariums and museums; or in research and development labs.

Hands-on laboratory experiences prepare students for both graduate study and jobs in industry.

Courses are taught by faculty with the highest degree in their field teach in low student-to-faculty ratio settings both in the classroom and in the laboratory

The new Lynn Science Center, the home of astrophysics, contains updated laboratories, classrooms, and the Detwiler Planetarium.

The department boasts a plentiful inventory of cutting-edge physics instrumentation that is available for students to use as early as their first year.

Careers and opportunities

More than half of all astronomy and physics majors continue their education at graduate schools. Those students who decide to enter the workforce upon graduation find employment relating to their major, ranging from teaching to industrial research and positions in government labs.

Submit Your English Proficiency Exam Scores: Lycoming requires submission of one of the following assessments: TOEFL IBT (minimum score 70); TOEFL PBT (minimum score 525); IELTS (minimum overall band score 6.0); Pearson English Test -PTE Academic (minimum score 50) or Duolingo English Test - DET (minimum score 100), unless you live in an English-speaking country.

Submit Financial Support Documents: International students planning to attend with an F-1 or J-1 visa will be required to submit proof of financial support. Students must complete and return the Financial Disclosure Form and an official bank statement (translated into English, if necessary) verifying adequate available funds prior to being considered for admission.
