Overview
Field experiences begin in the sophomore year and build each semester, so that when student teaching arrives, State University of New York at Geneseo students are prepared to independently take on the challenges of a classroom.
Students all will have the opportunity to work in various grades and with students with a range of abilities.

Program Learning Outcomes
- Candidates understand how exceptionalities may interact with development and learning and use this knowledge to provide meaningful and challenging learning experiences for individuals with exceptionalities.
- Candidates create safe, inclusive, culturally responsive learning environments so that individuals with exceptionalities become active and effective learners and develop emotional well being, positive social interactions, and self-determination.
- Candidates use knowledge of general and specialized curricula to individualize learning for individuals with exceptionalities.
- Candidates use multiple methods of assessment and data sources in making educational decisions.
- Candidates select, adapt, and use a repertoire of evidence-based instructional strategies to advance learning of individuals with exceptionalities.

General requirements
- Complete the Common Application or SUNY Application.
- For a first-time university student, we require up-to-date official transcripts from all secondary schools (high schools) you have attended with English translations.
- The International Admission Committee requires that all students must demonstrate proficiency in English. Official results from the following English proficiency exams are accepted: TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, iTEP, MET, Duolingo English Test, Cambridge.
- At least one letter of recommendation, preferably from a teacher, is recommended.
- Personal Statement. Tell us a little about yourself! The personal statement should be about one page long, detailing your interest in SUNY Geneseo and your major of choice.
