Overview
Neuroscience majors at Providence College enter careers in medicine, industry jobs (e.g. biomedical, pharmaceuticals companies), physical therapy, occupational therapy, substance abuse and mental health counseling, and clinical psychology and neuropsychology. Others will go on to earn their Masters or Ph.D.’s, where they can contribute to science that answer questions about the biological bases and treatments for neurological and psychiatric illnesses, such as traumatic brain injury, drug addiction, and dementia.
Overview
The Neuroscience program provides an interdisciplinary study of the nervous system – from the molecular level to gross brain anatomy – that advances the understanding of the relationship between brain function and thought, emotion, and behavior.
The goal of the neuroscience program is to offer students interested in the field an in-depth opportunity to participate in an integrated course of study focusing on the biological foundations of behavior. An important aspect of the program is engaging students in active, experiential learning in laboratory and classroom settings so they can explore the frontiers of this interdisciplinary field and be prepared for post-graduate study and careers in neuroscience-related fields.
