Overview
The English Education program is offered by Cameron University.Students take a combination of courses in literature, writing, English grammar and linguistics, and secondary teaching methods, culminating in a student teaching semester. Courses help prepare students for Oklahoma state teacher certification.Candidates demonstrate knowledge of English language arts subject matter content that specifically includes literature and multimedia texts as well as knowledge of the nature of adolescents as readers.

Candidates plan instruction and design assessments for reading and the study of literature to promote learning for all students.
Candidates plan instruction and design assessments for composing texts (i.e., oral, written, and visual) to promote learning for all students.
Candidates plan, implement, assess, and reflect on research-based instruction that increases motivation and active student engagement, builds sustained learning of English language arts, and responds to diverse students’ context-based needs.
Candidates demonstrate knowledge of how theories and research about social justice, diversity, equity, student identities, and schools as institutions can enhance students’ opportunities to learn in English Language Arts.
Candidates are prepared to interact knowledgeably with students, families, and colleagues based on social needs and institutional roles, engage in leadership and/or collaborative roles in English Language Arts professional learning communities, and actively develop as professional educators.

General requirements
- Earn an ACT composite score of 20 or higher or a SAT score of 1020 or have an unweighted high school grade point average of 3.0 and rank in the top 50% of their class.
- Completed enough high school coursework to be equivalent to an individual who is classified as a junior or senior at an accredited high school.
- Earn an ACT composite score of 20 or higher or a SAT score of 1020 or higher.
- Provide a signed statement from the high school principal or counselor stating that the student will be eligible to satisfy high school graduation requirements (including curricular requirements for college admission) no later than the spring semester of the senior year.
- Provide a signed statement from parent(s) or legal guardian stating the student has permission to enroll concurrently.
