Overview

The Bachelor of Music in Voice program at the University of Northern Iowa provides students with a rigorous and comprehensive study of vocal performance, technique, and repertoire. Through coursework in music theory, history, and performance, students develop a strong foundation in vocal technique, as well as a broad knowledge of vocal repertoire across a range of genres and historical periods. Faculty members, who are accomplished performers and educators, provide individualized instruction, fostering students' growth as musicians, scholars, and leaders in the field. Graduates of the program have pursued careers in opera, oratorio, music theater, and other forms of vocal performance, as well as graduate study in vocal performance and pedagogy.

We pride ourselves in being a program that is successful because of the participation of a mixture of undergraduate music majors and non-majors and graduate voice students. When students are interested in opera, we understand the educational value to them in whatever field they will pursue. We are stronger because of our inclusive approach to participation. Additional collaborations with the dance program and the theatre department have rejuvenated our creativity and created a professional atmosphere in which students participate in the highly collaborative process of bringing an opera to the stage.
