The curriculum includes courses in literature, philosophy, history, sociology, and anthropology, as well as courses that focus on specific medical topics, such as bioethics, medical narratives, and health disparities.
Students will also have opportunities to engage in experiential learning, such as internships, research projects, and service learning, to apply their knowledge in real-world settings. Graduates of the Medical Humanities program at Saint Leo University will be well-prepared to pursue careers in healthcare, such as medicine, nursing, public health, or social work, as well as in related fields, such as advocacy, policy, or education. They will also be prepared to pursue advanced studies in the humanities or in interdisciplinary fields, such as medical anthropology or medical ethics.
Undergraduate Medical Humanities Program Details
The medical humanities program focuses on preparing students mainly for health-related fields but offers a choice of tracks for further specialization:
1. The Pre-Med track prepares students for medical school and provides the minimum science and math courses needed to succeed on the MCAT. Alternatively, this track prepares students for other graduate medical fields.
2. The Health and Humanities track supports careers and/or graduate work in other fields, such as psychology, social work, public health policy and education, medical writing, occupational therapies, and other health-related fields. Students who choose this track will have more opportunities for courses in minors that will help to focus their ultimate career goals.
