Overview

The curriculum at University of Michigan is carefully structured through a series of intermediate-level bridge courses to facilitate students' transitions from introductory to advanced study in philosophy. At the same time, students have considerable flexibility to design their own programs. Majors take at least two 400-level courses, thus giving them some experience with philosophy at an advanced level.

Majors must take at least 25 credits of Philosophy, of which 16 must be in residence, including the two required 400-level courses. No course will count toward the major unless the student receives a grade of C- or better. See the button above for the prerequisites and distribution requirements.

Advisors help students choose a suitable program of study and declare a major. It is very important that you meet often with your advisor to keep you on track in fulfilling program requirements.
