Key features

In order to receive a Utah teaching license, teaching majors will need to be admitted to the Secondary Education Licensure Program in the College of Education. Application to this program must be approved by the Department's teaching major advisor.

The Student Experience

Students in the French Teaching major at University of Utah take courses in a wide variety of subjects related to French literature and culture. Topics and areas of focus range from medieval French literature to Francophone studies to contemporary issues facing the French speaking world. Students are strongly encouraged to study abroad to gain language and cultural proficiency, and to experience how French and Francophone people speak, live, and interact. Students can also get involved on campus by joining the French Club.

Career Opportunities

Upon graduation, you will be prepared for careers in the education field, such as the Dual Language Immersion program (K-9) or teaching French in a World Language program (middle school and high school). Note that in order to teach in public schools in Utah, students must also be licensed. Licensure can be pursued through the Urban Institute of Teacher Education. With additional courses at the graduate level, students may find work as an instructor, lecturer, or professor at an institution of higher education.
