Overview

The 442-seat, state-of-the-art James L. Highlander Theater will offer you diverse design, assistant design, carpentry, costuming, lighting, sound, make-up and hair, and stage management experiences on a traditional proscenium stage. Our flexible, 100-seat Nickerson Black Box Theater will provide you with more intimate designing, building, and lighting challenges.

Each summer you’ll have paid opportunities to company manage, direct, design or act in our touring children’s production. UCM Theatre and Dance invites you to join a diverse body of students, professional faculty, and participate in a rigorous curriculum that will prepare you for graduate programs or a professional career.

Program Learning Outcomes

The graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theatre - Design and Technology at the University of Central Missouri will use the knowledge and skills obtained in the program to:

Communicate and collaborate effectively in the interactive and creative process of theatre.

Demonstrate a working knowledge of the historical, cultural, and stylistic dimensions of theatre.

Demonstrate technical proficiency in the areas of acting, design and technology.

Form, communicate, and defend value judgments about quality and aesthetics in works of theatre.
