Overview

You will gain exposure to media platforms spanning from online multimedia production to TV and filmmaking through courses in video, film, sound production, editing, motion graphics, podcasting, broadcasting and screenwriting.

Courses combine theory and hands-on learning, allowing you to develop a fundamental baseline of knowledge as well as your personal interests in media creation. In the senior year, you will complete a professional capstone portfolio project that meets the requirements of future employers.

Learning outcomes

Students who graduate with the B.A. degree in Digital Media from University of Massachusetts Lowell will be able to:

Articulate theoretical and historical contexts of media, including its impact on culture and society, and perform critical analysis of media

Demonstrate critical media literacy by creating successful media messages employing a variety of media elements

Select and employ video and audio editing language and related effects appropriate to both content and audience

Demonstrate skills related to all stages of media production process, from writing script to establishing venues of distribution

Collaborate effectively in diverse and interdisciplinary teams and work with an awareness of diverse audiences

Produce work in a variety of media formats using relevant technologies, culminating in a original capstone project suitable for their professional portfolio

You are considered a first-year student if you have not taken any post-secondary/college coursework. Your application should include your high school or secondary school records, including results from culminating or leaving examinations.
