Overview

There’s more to studying English with Year Abroad (Hons) programme at Queen Mary University of London than being a keen reader, it will train you to become a dynamic writer and thinker too. This is a global subject that thinks about writing, ideas and traditions from all over the world. At the same time, it pays attention to local communities and cultures. A degree in English is a brilliant launchpad into many career areas as potential employers will recognise your skills as a critical thinker and communicator.

From the earliest Anglo-Saxon poems to the latest bestsellers, our English programmes are designed to cover a whole range of literature. Our teaching team is made up of 40 academics who are either world experts or rising stars, you might have already come across them on the radio, TV, or podcasts.

Careers

Our English graduates go on to work in all sorts of sectors, including teaching, publishing, media and communications, and arts and heritage. Some of our most well-known alumni include authors Sarah Waters, JG Ballard and Conn Iggulden, and TV comedy writer James Lamont.

Grades ABB at A-Level. This must include grade A or above in A-Level English Literature, English Language and Literature or English Language. Excludes General Studies and Critical Thinking.

International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum of 32 points overall, including 6,5,5 from three Higher Level subjects. This must include a minimum of 6 in Higher Level English A.
