Overview
The Marine Biology B.Sc. (Hons) at Ontario Tech University provides students with a comprehensive scientific foundation for studying life within the world's oceans. This specialised programme combines rigorous theoretical learning with practical laboratory training to prepare graduates for the complexities of aquatic research and conservation. Students investigate the biological processes of marine organisms ranging from microscopic life to the largest apex predators.
As a central component of the biological science department, this curriculum emphasises the interconnectedness of marine ecosystems. The programme is designed to foster critical thinking and technical proficiency, ensuring that students are well-equipped to address contemporary environmental challenges.
Why Marine Biology at Ontario Tech University?
One of the most distinctive features of this programme is the opportunity to spend a semester abroad at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS). Located near the Sargasso Sea, this world-renowned facility allows students to explore some of the world’s most northern coral reefs. Participants gain access to advanced floating laboratories and research vessels, such as the Atlantic Explorer, providing an unparalleled experiential learning environment.
The university also offers a direct-entry co-operative education option. This pathway allows students to engage in full-time, paid work terms, integrating classroom concepts with professional industry practice. These placements help students build a professional network and gain a competitive edge in the graduate job market. Additionally, those interested in leadership can pursue a five-year combined science and management degree.
