Overview
The Emergency Medical Services Management (EMS) program from Oregon Health & Science University offers students a diversified education experience designed to develop strong field provider skills, as well as EMS management and leadership training. Students with the discipline and drive to successfully complete our programs, earn eligibility for both state and national licensing exams.
Located primarily at the Oregon Tech Portland-Metro campus, the BS degree in EMS Management is a joint Oregon Tech / Oregon Health and Science University degree that provides graduates with practical training in three core areas; general business management training, specific EMS industry management training and finally advanced clinical training.
What You'll Learn
While your first two years are spent preparing for and then completing the paramedic program, your next two years are spent training and studying in three main areas:
- Management Foundation classes – these courses are designed to prepare the student with a broad management background that applies to all industries.
- EMS Industry Management classes – In this area, students receive training and exposure to the specialized operations and management issues and challenges that effect public and private companies that operate within the EMS industry.
- Advanced clinical training in one of two areas
Job Opportunities are Available Nationwide
Once licensed, graduates find employment with ambulance agencies, fire departments, air-medical transport, industrial sites, tactical medical teams and hospitals. Graduates also find rewarding adventures providing medical assistance for disasters, international medical needs and expedition medicine. Our graduates assume leadership roles and often promote into supervision and management, while others find they are well prepared to pursue higher degrees and other medical fields.
