Overview
What’s unique about this community advocacy and social policy degree?
This Community Advocacy and Social Policy BA program from Arizona State University has two key focus areas: diversity and oppressed populations, and social problems and interventions.
You will develop a deep understanding of how social policies have adversely affected marginalized or oppressed populations, such as different racial/ethnic groups, individuals struggling with mental illness, the elderly and more. You will also acquire the community advocacy tools necessary to address the social problems impacting these populations, with an emphasis on past and present challenges facing various groups in the Southwest.
What can I do with a social policy degree?
The online community advocacy and social policy degree will prepare you to work within the social services sector across a variety of settings, including mental health clinics, schools, hospitals, and child welfare and human service agencies, among others. Graduates will be prepared for employment in the social services arena, such as performing basic case management (benefit processing or certification); staffing hotlines or warmlines; referral, recruitment and volunteer coordinator positions; and prevention and education. In addition, advocate positions are part of many organizations such as hospitals and the behavioral health system. This degree program also prepares students to pursue graduate education.
