The department’s policy is to maintain a balanced strength between language and literature and between Peninsular and Latin American facets of a unified field.
Learning outcomes
- Spanish and Portuguese Students at University of California, Berkeley in this major choose one of the following concentrations based on general area of interest.
- To be eligible for admission to the honors program, a student must attain a 3.5 grade- point average or higher in courses completed in the major, and a 3.3 grade-point average in all courses completed at the University.
- An honors thesis is required, as is registration in an SSEASN H195 course based on the student's area of study. Students who wish to participate must choose a thesis topic in consultation with their major advisor and apply for admission to the program through the departmental office no later than the first week of spring semester in their senior year.
