Overview

Throughout the Politics (Hons) course at The University of Lancashire you'll get to choose from modules covering British and Irish history, world history, and heritage. This flexible approach allows you to tailor your learning to suit your interests. You’ll acquire a deep historical knowledge and understand different periods of history in various parts of the world.

You will be taught by an enthusiastic team of academics as you explore the cultural, diplomatic, political, and social aspects of history. Discover and analyse both primary and secondary sources. Discuss the nuances of different theories and put forward your own arguments in lively and engaging seminars.

Studying history

There are three strands to our history degree: British and Irish history; world history; and heritage. Choose from a variety of modules to suit your interests.

Enjoy access to a range of books and online resources in the library. There are regular study support sessions to help you learn academic skills like referencing.

Enrich your history degree with new experiences. Study abroad and visit the cultures you learn about. Or, choose one of our work placement modules to gain practical skills.

Careers

A history degree gives you many transferrable skills which are sought after in industry. It demonstrates that you have the ability to process and analyse large amounts of information.

It also shows that you have critical thinking skills, written communication skills and the ability to manage your own time.

History graduates have gone on to forge successful careers in teaching, law, heritage and the public sector. Many other graduates have established careers in business, marketing, media, and finance.
