Overview
This Physics with Astrophysics (Hons) course from The University of Lancashire brings together aspects of two courses to offer a programme that’s full of possibilities. You'll explore the fundamental laws of nature while applying them to the Universe beyond Earth.
Key facts
You will develop a strong foundation in physics, including mechanics, electromagnetism and waves. At the same time, you will begin to explore how these principles explain astrophysical phenomena. You'll also gain the mathematics skills needed to describe physical systems.
As your progress, you will deepen your understanding of modern physics while building a broader astrophysical perspective. You will study topics such as quantum mechanics and relativity, as well as stellar structure, galaxies and cosmology. You'll connect theory to your own observations and simulations, as you take experimental, computational and data-driven approaches.
In your final year, you will integrate physics and astrophysics to tackle complex questions. You'll continue to develop your laboratory skills. You can choose to complete an extended project or UAS teaching placement, helping you gain the skills for your future career.
Accreditation
This course is accredited by the Institute Of Physics, the professional body and learned society for physics in the UK and Ireland. On completion of this course graduates can progress towards Chartered Physicist (Phys) status.
