Overview

The Clinical Dental Technology (Hons) course at University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) gives you the opportunity to train as a clinical dental technician who can work within dental technology and primary care dentistry. Primary care dentistry is delivered by the whole dental team, of which clinical dental technicians are an increasingly important part.

The structure of the course is exciting and innovative in that our BSc Clinical Dental Technology, BSc Dental Therapy and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) courses share common modules. Both Clinical Dental Technician students and BDS students will learn clinical, technical and professional skills together during the course.

Opportunities

On completion of the course, you will be eligible to apply for registration with the General Dental Council *subject to GDC approval (visit website for full details) and work in dentistry as a Dental Care Professional. You could work as a Dental Technician or a Clinical Dental Technician.

Accreditation

This course has been provisionally accepted by the GDC Registrar. The GDC is the UK-wide statutory regulator of the dental profession. They register qualified dental professionals, work to ensure the quality of dental education, and protect patient safety.

General requirements

3 A-Levels with minimum grades BCC – Must include Biology which will be required at B (Including a Pass in Biology practical endorsement). The university will consider all subject areas for the remaining 2 A levels but ideally they would be Physics, Chemistry or Maths, except general studies or critical thinking
BTEC Extended Diploma in applied science achieved at DDM or above will be accepted as an alternative to A-levels
International Baccalaureate Diploma: Pass including 104 points from Higher Level Subjects including Biology
A Foundation entry course in a relevant science-based subject would be considered if achieved at 50% overall with 60% or above in all Biology modules
International Baccalaureate Diploma: Pass including 112 points from Higher Level Subjects
A satisfactory Criminal records declaration (DBS/Disclosure Scotland), and Occupational Health clearance are required for this course
