Program Overview

  • The B.A. Translational Health - Applied Health at Ohio University provides maximum opportunities for the student to progress well beyond the material found in the conventional courses. Students can select either an Applied Nutrition track or an Exercise Physiology track. 
  • The primary purpose of the tutorial program is to serve as a preparation for graduate or professional study. The Nutrition track may be tailored to satisfy the requirements for the Registered Dietitian board exam (several additional general education courses are required for the verification statement to sit for this exam), while both tracks may be tailored to satisfy the requirements for  professional graduate programs, such as medical school and physician’s assistant, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, physical therapy and occupational therapy graduate programs. Students will receive the degree of Bachelor of Science from the Honors Tutorial College.

Freshman/First-Year Admission

  • Students are selected by the Director of Studies of the HTC Translational Health - Applied Health Degree and the Honors Tutorial College on the basis of superior ability and sustained motivation. We look for good scores on standardized tests (30 composite score on the ACT or a combined score of 1300 on the SAT), but we also require a good high school record (class standing in the top 10%). An interview with a representative of the School of Applied Health Sciences and Professions, typically the director of studies, is required for acceptance into the program. Recommendation letters from two high school teachers are optional, but recommended. 
  • The priority deadline for application for admission is November 15th, and admission interviews are held in January.

  • Successful graduates of the HTC Translational Health - Applied Health Degree at Ohio University are highly competitive applicants for graduate school or professional school (medical school, physical therapy, occupational therapy, exercise physiology and metabolism, nutrition and dietetics, kinesiology, community and applied health, physician’s assistant, etc.).

    GCSE or IGCSE Curricula
  • For students participating in the GCSE or IGCSE curricula, we generally expect to see at least 6 passes, graded C or higher. Students who are going on to complete GCE Advanced Subsidiary (AS-levels) and/or Advanced Levels (A-levels) may be awarded transfer credit for successfully completed exams.
  • International Baccalaureate Curriculum
  • For students studying an International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, we generally expect an average of 5 out of 7 on your college-preparatory curriculum. IB Higher Level examinations may also be eligible for transfer credit.
