Overview

By completing the Special Education program at DePaul University, you will be eligible for the Illinois Learning and Behavior Specialist license, provided you complete additional state requirements.

Students in this program complete two lab-based courses in the Education and Counseling Center in the College of Education, with one focused on reading, and one on math. In each course students have the opportunity to work with a struggling learner from the community. Students also complete two field-based practicum courses (totaling 70 hours of field experience) with related seminars.

All applicants are required to submit official high school transcripts.

The following curricular requirements are strongly recommended:

Four years of English

Three years of mathematics (minimum course work equivalent to Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II)

Three years of science (two of which must be lab science)

Two years of social science

Two years of language study other than English

Common Application School Report.

Submission of SAT or ACT Scores is not required for admission if you are applying from outside the United States.
