Students are encouraged to gain a broad perspective in several or all of these areas. With a student-to-faculty ratio of approximately 11 to one and an average class size of 15, the department is able to support individual students as they work to realize their full musical potential.Performance OpportunitiesStudents may join a range of ensembles, from small chamber groups to opera productions, including Choir, Women’s Chorus, Madrigal Singers, Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble and Combos, and Opera Workshop, as well as the student-run Camerata and Mahagonny Ensemble. Performers are encouraged to participate in Monday afternoon student recitals, chamber music, and concerts of works by student composers; the most advanced give junior and senior solo recitals. There are additionally numerous independent a cappella singing groups and student bands on campus.

Schedule TOEFL®While we do not prescribe a specific secondary school program, we expect applicants to have elected the most demanding courses available. Therefore, we recommend students elect four years of English, Mathematics, Laboratory Science, History or Social Science, and Foreign Language. Students should take a substantial portion of their work in enriched, accelerated, or honors courses or in Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate programs when these options are available. Special attention is given to the academic breadth, depth, and rigor of candidates’ junior and senior year programs.
The living costs include the total expenses per month, covering accommodation, public transportation, utilities (electricity, internet), books and groceries.
