Upon graduation, the majors are highly successful, and pursue careers in diverse fields, including law, technology, consulting, banking, non-governmental and public interest organization and think tanks. Many also go on to pursue graduate study in law, political science, public administration, or business administration.

Many political science majors take advantage of the complementarities between political science and other Duke programs. Some choose a double-major, for example, in Classical Studies, Economics, History, Mathematics, Philosophy, Psychology, Public Policy, Sociology, or Statistics. Others complete one of the certificate programs housed within the department including Politics, Philosophy, and Economics, and Decisions Sciences. The students also regularly take advantage of the opportunity to study abroad as part of their political science coursework.

Transcripts

Duke will consider official scores as well as scores that are self-reported on the application. Submitting essay scores from the ACT and/or SAT is optional.

If you are a non-native English speaker or if you are not currently studying in an English-medium curriculum, Duke recommends but do not require that you take an English proficiency test.

Duke requires three letters of recommendation for each applicant: one from your school counselor and two from teachers who have taught you in major academic courses (English, mathematics, social studies, sciences, foreign languages), preferably within the last two years of secondary school.

Both the Common Application and the Coalition Application include a one-page personal essay as well as short essay questions specific to Duke.
