About

As an Art Education, Grades K-12 major at St. Thomas Aquinas College, you’ll take studio courses and art history courses so you learn the techniques and theory necessary to teach art to children and adolescents.

Overview

Our Art Education, Grades K-12 students from St. Thomas Aquinas College complete coursework in Inclusive Art Education in order to pursue New York State Certification.

Our studio-based, hands-on approach to art education will hone your skills as an artist while teaching you the “art” of teaching art.

Careers

  • Art provides a way for people to express motivations and feelings, so although an art education degree prepares you to teach art in the classroom (grades K-12), it also prepares you for a career in community centers, museums, retirement centers, healthcare facilities, and more.

Programme Structure

  • The School of Education of St. Thomas Aquinas College is dedicated to preparing you for a rewarding career as a teacher, and the best way to do that is to give you many hands-on classroom experiences.
  • Starting in Sophomore year, students take part in field experiences that expose you to real classroom environments, so that when you're a Senior, you will be ready for your student teaching, where you have your own classroom in a local school district.
