The teaching and coaching concentrations help you find the path that calls to you. You’ll learn the science, theory, and practical strategies behind running an engaging and effective physical education program.

The faith-filled Physical Education program from Southern Wesleyan University will help you integrate a Christian ethic of care into your instructional practices and provide the foundation to plan, implement, and evaluate learning experiences that meet students’ needs.

Learning Outcomes

Graduates of the Physical Education program will be able to:

Demonstrate mastery of the scientific and theoretical foundations for effectively delivering physical education in a pre-K-12 setting.

Confidently model physical literacy, physical education content, and health-enhancing fitness activities.

Plan and implement developmentally appropriate physical education experiences, and ensure education content is aligned with local, state, and/or SHAPE America’s National Standards and Grade Level Outcomes for K-12 Physical Education.

Employ teaching strategies that engage students, including the use of communication, feedback, technology, and instructional and managerial skills to improve student learning.

Use appropriate assessments when evaluating students’ progress.

Employ professional ethics and culturally competent practices related to physical education, seek continued professional development, and support the growth of physical literacy.

If you’re applying as a freshman student, you will need to submit your official:

High school transcript,

SAT or ACT score(s) or utilize SWU’s test optional admissions policy.

A GPA of 2.3 (or rank in upper half of your graduating class at time of acceptance) and a composite SAT score of 860 (based on the critical reading/verbal and math sections) or an ACT score of 18 or CLT score of 54

Or a GPA of 3.0 or higher and no test scores
