Join one of the fastest-growing professions that suits a wide array of jobs, from social work and family therapy to care manager and probation officer. There won’t be a semester lacking in hands-on human services experience; by sophomore year you’ll be placed in a community agency.

To make the Human Services program of York College of Pennsylvania even more attractive to employers, we recently changed the name of the program from Behavioral Science to Human Services. Why? Employers and graduate programs are specifically looking for Human Services in applicants, so this gives you one more advantage. Plus, small class sizes and professors who get great joy out of being mentors give you the support you need to thrive. We also give you the chance to add a specialty area of study: criminal justice, youth development, not-for-profit management, and gerontology.

Career

This is a fast-growing field, with 22% projected job growth to 2022, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Our graduates work for federal agencies, Adams County Juvenile Probation, Adoption from the Heart, the American Red Cross, religious organizations, GEICO and branches of the U.S. military. You'll be prepared for graduate study in social work, occupational therapy, marriage and family therapy, counseling, and gerontology. And you'll be well-suited for entry level positions such as:

Care manager

Job coach

Social services provider

Probation officer

And work in settings such as group homes, schools, court systems, hospitals, retirement communities, rehab centers and more.
