Explore history with a vibrant community of teachers and scholars who are passionate in teaching the past. In the tradition of the Christian liberal arts, the history program provides a wide range of course offerings in American, European, Non-western, and Public History. In our program, you'll find enrichment opportunities such as working with professors on historical research, interning with museums and historical archives, participating in archaeological investigations, studying abroad, teaching in local schools, and developing skillsets through digital and public history projects. Whatever your career path, we'll work with you to creatively connect the past to the present.

In fact, a signature component of our nationally recognized history degree program at Messiah University is the intentional integration of classical historic study and progressive hands-on projects both in and outside the classroom. We’re confident that throughout the history program, you’ll find plenty of ways to link what you’re learning in the classroom with applied experience.

Applicants must have graduated from an accredited senior high school or the equivalent. Course units from grades nine through twelve should include the following:

4 units in academic English
at least 2 units (preferably 3 or more) in academic mathematics
at least 2 units (preferably 3 or more) in academic natural science

2 or more units in foreign language
