Overview
The English Education program at Bemidji State University offers a pathway to a rewarding career teaching English Language Arts in middle and high school, where you will play an important role in shaping students’ lives as they engage in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and creating multimedia texts.
Key Features
The professors in the program take time to get to know each student and are committed to helping you achieve your academic and professional goals. English content courses provide inquiries into literature, linguistics, communication, composition, digital rhetoric, and creative writing.
English Education courses emphasize culturally sustaining and revitalizing pedagogies, preparing you to offer rigorous learning activities and meet the needs of diverse students in a variety of educational settings. They also offer specialized opportunities to focus on teaching in Indigenous and rural communities.
Upon completion of the program, you are prepared for teaching excellence and licensure in secondary Communications, Arts, and Literature (CAL) in the State of Minnesota.
The versatility of this degree allows for immediate employment as a teacher, and many of our students secure positions before they even start student teaching.
Teaching secondary ELA opens opportunities for advancement into various educational roles, including literacy, curriculum development, administration, and academia, as well as careers related to English and writing.
