Learning to think sociologically requires more than just the acquisition of knowledge—it demands that we break free from the immediacy of personal circumstances and experiences. The sociology major offers students the opportunity to engage their sociological imaginations so that they might stand outside their experiences—and the experiences of others—and consider them anew.

Students learn to see and appreciate the complexities of social life, and learn to understand society and individuals in a variety of settings. Sociology majors find themselves prepared for graduate study in sociology, law, social work, gerontology, communication, criminal justice, urban planning, the ministry, and a variety of other fields.
