Overview

The Film and Video Arts degree at State University of New York Fredonia explores the vast creative potential of film making beyond the traditional Hollywood narrative. Students learn how to move an audience through the creation of rich, thought-provoking experimental films, while they develop a wide array of skills.

These skills provide students with the tools needed to work as independent artists/filmmakers, go into media-based industry jobs or continue their education at the graduate level.

The Fredonia Difference

The Film and Video Arts program is first and foremost about the creative process. Art making is fundamental to understanding how moving images affect us, bringing emotion and making us think about the ideas portrayed. By being immersed in studio arts, our students gain a strong visual foundation that informs their filmmaking and sets it apart from the work of others.

The program grows and changes continually, keeping up with new approaches in the industry and innovations in technology. At the advanced level, students can shoot and edit with 4K video and hi-speed frame rates. A new high-level lab with isolated sound booth, Tangent Element work surfaces, and 4K monitors allows specialized editing, color grading, and sound recording.
